Mousetrap Challenge - 2.2: Ideation 2

At the beginning of today's class my group swiftly abandoned our previous day's decisions. It was decided that since we had already met our 5m requirement our primary concern is now accuracy. After using the whiteboard and crossing out almost everything on it, we were left with rails. In the absence of electronic controls we planned to use rails/train-tracks to dictate the direction of our vehicle. We now plan to use a train set as our mousetrap vehicle and rail for quickly adjustable maneuverability.

  1. Again, I think that you need to explain your ideas more fully. I assume that by accuracy, you mean consistent direction. What kind of train set are you using? What do you mean by "quickly adjustable maneuverability?" Your vehicle should probably move in a straight line. Both because it is easier to test and measure the speed and distance but also because changing direction will increase friction and make the test run less efficient and effective. Please answer the questions to receive credit.

    1. The idea was to have a Thomas the Tank Engine set and simply launch that down rails with the mousetrap. By quick adjustable maneuverability it was meant that we could change the tracks and where/when they turned. Next class I will push returning to our previous idea. I'm concerned at how we flit from one idea to the next; not to mention that this solution is too simple, like making a mousetrap gun.

  2. Thank you, Jason. I think that your instincts are right. I would like to see a more interesting solution as well.
