Mousetrap Challenge - 2.1: Ideation 1

On our first day of the design decision, our primary contemplation was whether to use a catapult solution or the previous wheel solution. Ultimately we decided on the wheel solution and have begun designing a better wheel as well as the track. The track however is to be very short as it was determined it doesn't do much in terms of stability for straight lines. We has eliminated redesign and now we are left with improve.

  1. I think that there is a lot missing in the description of your ideas here, Jason. How are you designing a better wheel? What does it look like? In what way is it better than previous designs? And what is the track? How will it improve things? Why are you considering it in the first place? You claim that it isn't really effective, so what is the purpose of keeping the idea? Answer these questions and I'll give you credit for the post.

    1. We were planning on designing a slightly wider wheel for stability but keeping the core shape of the original 3D fiber spool. We liked the original spool as it had minimal contact surfaces with the ground (which is okay because our doesn't rely on spinning/traction). Just re-printing an exact copy would help too because our original spool came apart multiple times and as the re-gluing wasn't exact it now angled/turned more frequently. As for the track I claimed it didn't matter because if the vehicle hit any part of it it would lose so much energy that the run was essentially done for anyways. Other members however believed it did help and after testing with and without the track it was determined it had no effect on the vehicle's accuracy. The beginning of the track however is useful because it makes it easy to transport the mousetrap and vehicle together in one piece.
